Helicopter Skiing
With Wasatch Powderbirds, January 8, 2004

Segment 2:  Helicopter Ride to the Summit

Once the helicopter touches down, we quickly load all skis & backpacks into the basket attached to the skid.  We climb into the back seat and fasten our seatbelts.  The helicopter wastes no time in taking off.  The pilot flies low to conserve fuel; the lower the altitude, the thicker the air.  Watch the ridge where the pilot lands:  it's about as wide as a good table.  The front of the skids are in the air on one side of the ridge, while the tail of the helicopter is in the air on the other side!
