Helicopter Skiing
With Wasatch Powderbirds, January 8, 2004

Segment 3:  The Helicopter Takes Off

As soon as the helicopter is down we pop off our restraining harnesses and slide to the ground.  The guide unloads our skis from the basket.  Kneeling below the whirling blades is like bowing to a hurricane.

Watch when the helicopter takes off.  The pilot gets just a few feet above us, then pivots and plummets straight down the steep slope we're about to ski.  He claims it's a quick way to exchange altitude for speed and conserve fuel.  I think he does it just for fun.
