I'll be right there
I stop walking and stand still. I don't want to startle the animal further. But to my shock and surprise the goat still does not flee. It takes a good long look at me, then pads out of the brush and starts walking straight at me. What to do? I have seen these things run. There is no way I can get away from it. And I certainly can't climb anything that it can't follow me up. The only trees big enough to shimmy up are beyond it. To my further consternation, two tiny furballs break from the brush and follow it. I'm not dealing with a lone billy. This is a nanny with kids! Do nanny mountain goats have horns? Or is it dad's turn to babysit today? These ridiculous questions flash through my mind. I just hope I'll have the chance to get good answers some day. And what should I do? In the absence of good intelligence, I stay put. But I keep shooting pictures. I figure that if I'm found punctured and deflated on the trail, at least my friends and family will have a good record of who got me.
