Passing on

 

Once the goats seem happily engrossed in their endless salad bar, I snap one last picture and head up the trail away from them.  In this photo the second kid is hidden behind mom.  They always stay pretty close, and like to keep mom between themselves and me.  If you look closely, you can see the second kid's feet below mom's belly.

With time to reflect, I am guessing that the goats have become accustomed to having hikers offer them food.  Mom was probably coming over to see if I had anything interesting to offer as a salad garnish.  No doubt they grumbled to themselves about the "cheap locals" after I'd passed.  But what an unexpected treat it was for me to see them so close up!

Once I recovered from my heart attack, I really enjoyed it.
