At the summit

The summit of Timpanogos looks much as it always has.  I don't know when the tin shack was built up here; it was here the first time I arrived in 1974.  I think the forest service spray paints it every few years.  It's always covered with graffiti, but mercifully the rest of the rocks on the mountain seem to be spared.  Perhaps in this sense it's good to have a graffiti 'lightning rod' up here.

I don't go in the tin shack.  Like the Quonset hut at Emerald Lake it is a relic of another time.  I didn't come up here to be indoors.

I immediately drop my pack and dig out my phone.  The signal bars look much stronger up here.  I call home and Terry answers immediately.  To my relief I can hear her clearly.  She can hear me, too.
