At the Edge of Tomorrow (Thanks for Yesterday)

by Dale Neibaur, 1976(?)

We must have been half crazy --
Too little sleep and too much to do, maybe,
Or maybe it was just being college-young and
Happy to be alive in spite
                                        (or because?)
                                                    of it all.

And I can laugh now, looking back from this my
Halfway-to-the-top place at all we've done
And at all the crazy worries I thought would stop the world.

But before we go on
and we will go on, for ours is a life of change
I want to just say thanks for
                late nights and
                listening ears and
all the silly fun-filled times we snatched
from the jaws of some imminent test.

Thanks for the insights you gave,
                the talks we had,
                the silences you've understood.

Endings can be good times too,
So at the ending of the year I want to say
God bless and be with you.

Build yourself a Merry Christmas;
I'll see you again
When the January snow ushers in a newborn year
And we can start all over
To make life a special time for living.

Until then, take care
                                        -- and --
                                                            I love you.
