Homecoming Song

by Dale Neibaur, 1977

Crying

One last little star shines in a painted sky

Crying

A restless wandering breeze is idly wondering why

Morning kisses mountain peaks

A sunburst through my mind

And all the dreams and loves and hopes

And fears I left behind

Come running back to me.

Crying

Somehow never dreamed that it would feel this way

Crying

As the taxi meets the train that's come to carry me away

Giving way to memories I watch the mountains climb

And think of all the friends and places I must leave behind

I'd do it all again and more if only I'd the time

But time has carried me away.

Sighing

Settle down to rest a while in padded luxury

Dreaming

As the sun slides down the window

And the plane goes flying free

Wonder who'll be there to greet me, what they'll say

Two years were a lifetime, yet it seems just yesterday

The call to be a servant of the Lord took me away;

Now they've called me to come home.

Hoping

As the mountains of my homeland come up rolling from the sea.

Silence

As I step back to the earth that seems so very dear to me.

Then loving arms and well-known faces rush to greet my soul

Fond embraces ease my ache and once again I'm whole

Even Ziggy Dog remembers who I am

And Oh!  I'm smiling

I'm smiling

And still I'm crying.
