Goodbye Song

by Barbara Thomas, 1972

I didn't know much about you

When I first began to care;

I didn't know just what it was

That made me walk on air.

Each time you spoke or held my hand

I cherished the love we shared.

Goodbye is such a lonely word

It's as cold as the new-fallen snow.

So don't ever say goodbye to me

My heart still says hello.

The songs you sang were beautiful;

They almost made me cry.

They spoke of the joy that love can bring;

But when I asked you why

That joy could not last longer --

You only said goodbye.

Goodbye is such a lonely word,

It's as cold as the new-fallen snow.

So don't ever say goodbye to me

My heart still says hello.

I saw you once again today,

Your new love by your side.

I heard you sing to her my songs;

I tried hard not to cry.

For I had tried to convince myself

My love for you had died.

Goodbye is such a lonely word,

It's as cold as the new-fallen snow.

Once you said goodbye to me

But my heart still says hello.
