Little Girl Dreams

by Mark Brady

Holding flowers in her hand

She gazes to a far-off land she sees.

Climbing on her little girl dreams she flees . . .

A child in a grown-up world

And never knowing why --

Some day those little girl dreams

Are going to make her cry.

Waiting for her prince to come

She stands against the setting sun and sighs.

Above the fields of golden grain

Through timeless skies that hold no rain she flies . . .

A growing girl in a child's world

And parents wonder why --

They know those little girl dreams

Are bound to make her cry.

You know, I wonder -- does every girl

Hold dreams like you?

You really think your make-believe world

Some day will come true.

Well, what will you do when your fantasy flows by?

And what will you do when your songs begin

To wither up and die?

You know those little girl dreams

Are going to make you cry.

Coming out of childhood years

There comes someone who calms her fears to stay.

But like the blossom on the summer rose

Into the winter wind he goes away . . .

And all the shattered dreams she had

With him go out the door --

Broken knights and fallen crowns

Are pieces on the floor . . .

One day as the dreams subside

She finds one to stand beside;

They shine.

They stand tall as one would be

Together for eternity and time.

Tears of joy spring from her eyes

As she gazes on the past --

You see, all her little girl dreams

Have come to her at last.
