The Philanthropist

by Steven Argyle

Love,

Altruistic compassion

For all mankind I feel today.

My soul is filled to overflowing

With a morning sweetness and brotherly

Kindness the like of which I have not

Heretofore experienced.  On waking, I

Find myself entranced with the music I

Hear in my soundless thoughts.  Today will

I save mankind from all maladies existant.

But, riding my measured stride into the

World, my confidence falters; I see not

Man so like an angel but more a beast,

So wrapt in the webs of their intrigues

And plots for self-gain are they that

They see me not.  The music fades

And I quaff the cup and drain

The dregs of

Bitterness.
