Dale's Pumpkin 2003
I was going to skip carving a pumpkin this year. But after I cleaned one out for Terry, she told me that she wasn't going to carve it. And it was just sitting there ready... Using woodcarving tools greatly simplifies creating pumpkins like this one. I carved away the outer orange shell, then thinned the inner yellow shell until the light came through clearly. Lots of fun! This pumpkin is a "shadow" pumpkin. The front is this scene (not carved clear through), while on the back a dedicated pumpkinist would carve out the silhouette of a mummy clear through the shell. The pumpkin would then be set close to a wall, and the candle within the pumpkin would project the image of a mummy with outstretched arms ready to snatch the unsuspecting adventurer! I ran out of oomph, though. No mummy on this one. But there's always next year.
